We have received several email support questions that their app does not launch anymore. This is a known problem with the operating system and BlackBerry has resolved it in a new Os update. However, it seems that everyone is waiting for each carrier to release it to the devices. There is nothing we can do on our end, and it appears that BlackBerry cannot do much either. We suggest to contact your carrier to find out when the next OS will be made available.

The PlayBook version 4.3 of

The PlayBook version 4.3 of Magellan Compass has been released to BlackBerry World. It should be available to user within a couple of days. This version includes:

Map data layout change. As mentioned in the BB10 version release, the layout of map data has changed and requires the user to delete the app and re-install it to properly flush out any existing map data stored with the current app. We know this is not great news for user’s with lots of map data, but the previous method made map access slow when user’s started to save around a GB of map data. We hope this is the last time this needs to happen.

New aviation map provider. Map types include Hybrid VFR, Sectional, WAC, Low IFR and High IFR. Only US region mostly.

Navigation instructions more dynamic to maximize layout.

Navigation road sign placement fixed.

Navigation total time fixed.

New settings to allow user to choose action on route change.

New Spanish turn-by-turn voice (one free, one in-app purchase)

Initial layer selection fixed.

New ArcGIS topographic (terrain) map added.

Enhanced KML import.

The z10 (BB10) version of

The z10 (BB10) version of Magellan Compass has been released and should be available to users withing a few days. A lot of new things have been added to this release, including:

Map data storage has changed. For many, this might be bad news. We were forced to change how map data is stored on the device to allow for faster access and to allow for more map data to be stored. The previous method worked well, but some user’s that had GB of map data started to see performance issues. The new storage method has reduced the issue a lot and we hope this is the last time we have to make adjustments to how data is stored on the device. We were not able to convert large amounts of existing data on a user’s device with the new version, so it is easiest and best to simply delete the application and re-install the app to properly clear out existing map data.

New Aviation maps including Hybrid VFR, Sectionals, WAC, Low IFR and High IFR.

New settings layout to access setting more easily

New setting on route change behavior (move to start, fit to screen, nothing)

New setting to control how opaque the map buttons are

New Spanish turn-by-turn voice (one free)

Magellan Compass can be invocated just like BB Maps can from other apps

Ability to share a route via BBM, Email, etc.

Ability to share a POI via BBM, Email, etc.

Ability to share your location via BBM, Email, etc.

Ability to share a track via BBM, Email, etc.

Ability to open Magellan Compass from other apps and file system, including routes, GPX tracks and KML files.

New terrain view for some map providers.

Expanded KML import capabilities
